Rules

1. The tournament will be 100% normal, on the English version
2. Timing starts on file select for a new game and ends when you lose control of Samus after jumping into the ship after defeating the Black Pirates.
   
3. Safety saves are permitted
4. For console streaming, you can use the Game Cube with the Game Boy Player attachment (You can either use the official start up disc, or if you can load homebrew, Game Boy Interface is also acceptable, be sure to use the Low-Latency version for best results)
5. If you have a capture modded DS, that will be acceptable as well.
6. It is preferred to use an official cart with English text (NTSC/PAL are fine), but a flash cart with the US rom is also acceptable.
7. You can also use the Wii U Virtual Console versions if you have those with English text, and can stream it.
8. Exception: If both racers agree to JP version, that may be raced instead. However, please do not do so if you will be running on emulator if you are otherwise able to run on console, especially if the other racer is still staying on console.
9. VBA (All Versions) is banned, use the latest version of BizHawk. If you need help getting it set up, click here. If you need further assistance, let an admin know. The most important settings you need for Bizhawk is (with a GBA rom loaded) GBA -> Core > mGBA and then Config -> Profiles... then select Tool-assisted Speedruns. It is also imperative that you have the GBA Bios for optimal accuracy.
10. The use of Lua scripts is banned.

Tournament Format

The tournament will be run in a Best of 1, 6 round Swiss format through Challonge. Once the Swiss rounds are over, the top 8 players will be seeded into a separate bracket.  Players will be required to schedule their match within one week, otherwise the situation may lead to a forfeit.

The seeding for this swiss style tournament will be determined first by their 100% IGT time as listed on speedrun.com as of June 1st, 2019 -- 13:00 EDT (This is also when sign ups will be closed). In case of ties, the seeds for the tied players will be randomly determined among those players involved in the tie.  Players without a time on speedrun.com will be considered to have a time of 24 hours.

Rules

All Speed Runs Live (SRL) racing rules apply. All participants must use approved emulators/consoles and stream their races. We recommend that you locally save your race-stream file in the event that your stream is disconnected and you are “proofcalled” on your time. If you are not registered with SRL, please do so now. If you do not know how to set up or use an SRL account, please contact a moderator for assistance. Once the race is completed, please get in contact with a member of the admin team to update the standings and times.

Scheduled matches need to be played before the specified deadline for each round. 

You will be given 10 days to both schedule and play your matches.  We realize that a tournament of this magnitude has a lot of people with a lot of schedules to work around. That being said, if you schedule a match with someone and then bail on the scheduled time without prior notice, you may be removed from the tournament at the organizer's discretion.

Any disputes will be handled by the mod team, who will have final say in all matters.  Should a member of the mod team be involved in the dispute, that member will have no say in the final decision.

Match Procedure

Discuss and schedule a time to play your match against your opponent.  Please do so using the tournament discussion channel in the Zero Mission Discord.

When both participants are ready, begin a race in the #speedrunslive IRC channel on irc.speedrunslive.com or at http://www.speedrunslive.com/channel/ with the command:

.startrace zeromission

Once the race channel has been created, join that specific channel. Within the channel, change the goal to 100% with the command:

.setgoal 100% normal

Once that has been completed, both participants should enter the race. This can be performed with the following command:

.enter

When both participants are ready to begin the race, have their stream available, and are waiting on a file on the file select screen, type the following command:

.ready

The Race bot will then begin to countdown in the race chat, and upon reaching 0 both players will begin the race. The conclusion of these race is when you lose control of Samus after jumping into the ship after defeating the Black Pirates, at the point type the following command:

.done

And that’s it. Once the race is completed, please get in contact with a member of the admin team to update the standings and times. Congratulations!

Some additional handy commands for the race:

• .quit - If something arises and you need to remove yourself from the race, then use the .quit command.

• .undone - Use if you prematurely type .done or .quit before the race has ended.

FAQs / Q&As

• In the rare case of a race tie (as determined by the .done times recorded on SRL), the moderators will evaluate the replay, and come to a decision regarding who won. If they cannot properly judge a winner, racers will have to replay the race.  We don’t think this will happen, but wanted to spell that out.

• If your Speedrun.com name does not match your Challonge name, please contact the mods so we can assign the correct PB to you.

• If your Twitch and/or SRL name does not match your Challonge name, please contact the mods so we can make sure we have the right stream for the restream.
